Open Sessions Conversations: Daniel Bejar & Danielle Dean
.
DB: “Drawing is a huge part of the illustration practice and I consciously have not really utilized it in my conceptual practice. During Open Sessions, I was interested in popular or common uses of drawing, such as GPS drawing, architectural drawing, and appropriating these forms
 for my projects.”
.
DD: “Drawing for me is often how I build my videos. I use drawing to sketch a storyboard, or to work out where a person will be positioned in relation to the camera. It is a step in planning and figuring out how to create the image––what is seen by the viewer––even though we may see it as accidental or natural.”
.
Daniel Bejar lives and works in Brooklyn. His work has been shown at the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn; El Museo Del Barrio, New York; and Artnews Projects, Berlin.
.
Danielle Dean lives and works in Detroit. Her work has been shown at the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; The Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
.
Open Sessions is a two year artist program of interdisciplinary events and exhibitions focused on drawing, organized by Rosario Güiraldes and Lisa Sigal.
