Open Sessions Conversations: Sun Moqing & James Mercer
.
SM: “To me drawing is much more private than other visual forms. Whenever I draw, I feel as if I’m writing a letter. A drawing is not a thesis, it’s more akin to a personal letter.”
.
JM: “I don’t believe there is such a thing as certainty, I think every signal contains noise. So as an artist, I want to not only accept inevitable confusion, but understand it, work with it, and master it. I delineate the ‘unknowns’ as precisely as the ‘knowns.’”
.
Sun Moqing lives and works in Munich and Beijing. His work has been shown at the Grand Palais, Paris; Beijing World Art Museum, Beijing; and ALDI, Stuttgart.
.
James Mercer lives and works in Brooklyn. His work has been shown at The Tomato House, Brooklyn; The Stairwell Gallery, Providence; and Terrault Contemporary, Baltimore.
.
Open Sessions is a two year artist program of interdisciplinary events and exhibitions focused on drawing and organized by Rosario Güiraldes and Lisa Sigal.
