TM: “Early on when I was performing experimental music, I found it required a similar kind of mental state you describe when you are drawing: a sharp yet relaxed focus, which causes time to feel malleable and expandable. The concentration of performing manifests in my visual/sound work in machines which mechanically express gestures.” .

SY: “The paper is a field of infinite possibilities where I can exercise inner states and directions more freely. The drawing starts with an intention, a direction-conscience or a strong sensation. Close attention to this sensation guide my gesture on the paper until the drawing is done.” . 
Thessia Machado lives and works in New York. Her work has been shown at BRIC Arts, New York; Watermans Art Centre, London; and The Bronx Museum of the Arts, New York. . 
Sara Yan lives and works in Lisbon. Her work has been shown at the Château Padiès, Lempaut; Galeria Madragoa, Marseille; and Museu da Cidade Lisboa, Lisboa. .

Open Sessions is a two year artist program of interdisciplinary events and exhibitions focused on drawing, organized by Rosario Güiraldes and Lisa Sigal.
