JMR: “In my paintings I have a "sympathy for the devil" depicting royal female subjects for whom the word "privileged" doesn't even begin to describe their social status––like Princess Diana, Marie Antoinette, and Empress Elisabeth of Austria. However, despite their wealth and status, all of them had difficult, almost torturous personal lives and emotional problems.”[...] 〰️
ERG: “Your drawings require the viewer to be a voyeur. Secrets are revealed in the smallest details and fragments, like stained glass or peeking into keyhole. You slow down the experience of your work and in effect, implicate the viewer in the narrative, specifically in its gender and class politics.” 〰️〰️〰️〰️
