SH: “I use photography as a way to make marks and "sketch out " ideas. Glossolalia is an interesting way to think about drawing. Like an artist following his/her muse, speaking in tongues is a vehicle to manifest a spirit through a speaker.” 〰
JV: “To me, the future of drawing is tied to an examination of ideas related to fixity and artworks born in the “physical” realm. Online-native, digital-born projects, or ephemeral drawings––such as mandalas, sky-writing, self-destructing artworks on DVDs, or those related to the degradation of data in archives––challenge our understanding of drawing as a “permanent” mark on a substrate.” 〰
Sheree Hovsepian lives and works in New York. Her work has been shown at the Wentrup Gallery, Berlin; Etemad Gallery, Dubai; and Monique Meloche Gallery, Chicago. 〰
Jina Valentine lives and works in Durham. Her work has been shown at the Lisa Dent Gallery, San Francisco; The Studio Museum, New York; and The Weatherspoon Museum, Greensboro. . 〰
Open Sessions is a two year artist program of interdisciplinary events and exhibitions focused on drawing and organized by Rosario Güiraldes and Lisa Sigal.
