This page from Drawing Papers 69 features “Esfera n. 8” [Sphere No. 8], a three dimensional drawing made of stainless-steel wire with metal leader sleeves by Venezuelan artist Gego in 1977.

The  2007 exhibition, Gego, Between Transparency and the Invisible, explored the intriguing relationship between line and light in the work of #Gego (Gertrud Goldschmidt, 1912-1994) and traced her interest in “making visible the invisible” through a series of monotypes and delicate drawings without paper.  Gego began exploring the structural system of triangles in 1969, with interest in the irregular shapes formed by the voids that result from the joining of the wires. This system includes her sphere drawings which she developed by translating drawings on paper into three-dimensional forms to create environments and autonomous pieces or objects.
