Rodrigo Valenzuela’s black and white photographs recreate urban decay from the ruins of the artist's studio. Construction, debris and mark-making point beyond a singular landscape towards ruin as a metaphor, one that is elevated above poverty and societal ills. He explains, "I am not seeking to symbolize loss and nostalgia for a better past; I’m seeking to understand if there is pleasure in the ruin itself, in an attempt to embody this feeling without taking advantage of any particular community.” 〰〰
