A Page from the #DrawingPapers Archive

This page from Drawing Papers 55 features an Untitled work by #AdamFowler, created with graphite on paper that was then hand cut in 2005.

The 2005 exhibition LineAge: Selections Fall featured nine emerging artists selected from the Viewing Program. The artists in LineAge explored the genealogy of the drawn line in terms of formal development, biographical content, or demarcations of identity. Adam Fowler began making what he calls “paper cuts” in 2003. Excavated with the edge of a blade from paper, these drawing-sculptures have eliminated the negative space leaving the viewer with nothing but the lines. Though he must decide where to place his pencil, and when to lift it away, his sculptural lines are to the naked eye a continuous, unbroken motion. The Drawing Papers are a series of publications documenting The Drawing Center’s exhibitions and public programs and providing a forum for the study of drawing. -Kate Robinson, Bookstore Manager
