Every Thursday, we share a favorite book about drawing and artists working in the medium. 〰

The Tate Collection and the Drawing Center joined forces to put together an exhibition that showcased both the conceptual and aesthetic range of drawings from the past three centuries. Its associated catalogue ,”The Stage of Drawing: Gesture and Art” splits the exhibit into four main categories: The Mirrored Self, Coded Imprints, Invented Bodies, and Chronicling Space. Each category groups together works of arts and analyzes consistent themes over the centuries of drawing. 
British artist Avis Newman was chosen to select the drawings for the show, and sought to pick exploratory works that surpass what written language can provide. In her selections she wanted to highlight each stage in the process of drawing to emphasize the importance and value each drawn line can provide.
