"Marginalia: Open Sessions 10" is on view Wed-Sun 12-6pm | Thur 12-8pm.
The artists in this exhibition view borders and barriers as material through which to build new avenues of both trespass and solidarity. Marginalia features Daniel Bejar, Ana Peñalba, Sue Ka, Carolyn Lambert, Srinivas Mangipudi, Irini Miga, and Rodrigo Valenzuela.
Irini Miga’s installations investigate the fragmentary nature of memory and its relationship to everyday objects and situations, exploring tensions between sculpture, painting and drawing. These reflections are sometimes personal, as in “a”., where the incised outline of her hometown in Greece suggests a mark of past, on and of the wall. “Untitled”, an excerpt from “Visionary Landscapes” by composer Alan Hovhaness, played from memory on the gallery wall by pianist Brian Daurelle with his fingers dipped in ink, uses a color palette of greens, blues and browns, translating the musical score into a visual “landscape.” “Thought for a Landscape” offers a one point perspective into the material surface of the wall, creating a drawing from extraction, transformation and reuse.
