## Caption

The Department of Tropical Research went on over 65 official expeditions, only a fraction of them are shown here. With boats outfitted as floating laboratories they travelled extensively throughout the Caribbean. Under the direction of Jocelyn Crane they travelled to the South Pacific in 1956 and Eritrea, Angola, Nigeria, and the eastern coast of Tanzania in 1957 to study crabs.
