## Caption

Artists have a variety of methods to make their mark. Every Friday we will share a photograph of an #ArtistInAction.
A multimedia artist whose whimsical video work was recently drawing huge crowds at the New Museum, Pipilotti Rist was born in Grabs, in the Rhine Valley of Switzerland, in 1962. Early in her career, Rist found her way from the word of commercial art, photography, and illustration to video and installation work, piggybacking off of experience creating backdrops for musical performances. Her dreamscapes are known to transform galleries and museums into scenes of color and joy, massive projections draping walls and viewers in pattern and texture. Her work has evolved with the medium of film and finds its origins in bodily movement and layered imagery. Sensual and sensory experience emerge together from films as varied as “I’m Not the Girl Who Misses Much,” an early work from the 1980s that established some of Rist’s balance between levity and sinister undercurrents, and the recent “Pixelforest,” which expands her video work into three dimensional space.
