## Caption

Artists have a variety of methods to make their mark. Every Friday we will share a photograph of an #ArtistInAction.

Maplike structures and documentary forms of drawing ground Guillermo Kuitca’s drawn and painted works in a unique relationship with time. Born in 1961 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Kuitca’s work inscribes place and history into surfaces from tables to canvases and mattresses. A brief period as a theater director in the 1980s left Kuitca with a unique relationship to geography and person, which he carried over into work that uses the vocabulary of floor plans and sets. In 2012 The Drawing Center hosted "Guillermo Kuitca: Diarios", an exhibition of Kuitca’s discarded canvases, stretched over a table, and then over three to six months, covered with intentional and accidental doodles, drawings, and recordings on their surfaces. This ongoing chronicle of Kuitca’s time in the studio, like much of his work, reflects back on his own sense of place and person in a way that needs to be neither precious nor complete.
