Every Thursday, we are sharing our favorite books about drawing and artists working in the medium. “For me the medium of drawing is a tool to explain complex ideas very simply” - Olaf Breuning “Olaf Breuning: Drawings” is a comprehensive catalog of the drawings that the Swiss-born, New York-based artist made over the past 20 years. Breuning is known for his body of work exploring kitsch, clich and popular culture. Though he started as a photographer, his work forays into film, sculpture, and drawing as well to propel viewers into a world that borders on the surreal and underscores the humor of everyday life, thus bending reality to the whims of imagination. 
All the work in the book was made between 2005 and 2016, with the originals being pencil on A4 sheets of paper and, as Breuning mentions, some of them have or might become large scale ink and wall drawings, or sculptures made of different materials. The drawings presented in the publication are also accompanied by texts from Elsy Lahner, one of Austria’s leading experts on contemporary drawing, and an interview between the artist and Brett Littman, Director of The Drawing Center, which reveals the increasing importance of drawing in Breuning’s ouvre over the past decade.
