Artists have a variety of methods to make their mark. Every Friday we will share a photograph of an #ArtistInAction. 
R. H. Quaytman reflects each location and history in which her pieces are placed in the content of her architecturally minded paintings. Born in Boston in 1961 to abstract artist Harvey Quaytman and poet Susan Howe, and later raised also by her stepfather, sculptor David Von Schlegell, Rebecca Howe Quaytman learned how to embody time, feeling, and place with abbreviation and abstraction early in life. She graduated from Bard College in 1983, and returned as a faculty member in 2006. Quaytman’s delicately composed paintings reflect space and light with the help of silkscreened imagery and optical tricks. Among her best known projects are her “Chapters”, site specific collections of works that interact with one another as much as their designated location. Working in this way, Quaytman has developed 27 different Chapters that use her favored mixture of bright blue, magenta, and yellow and optical black and white.
