Looking for a bite to eat in SoHo? Here is a neighborhood gem. Each Wednesday we will post a Drawing Center food fav.
When you first enter Maman Soho, the bakery doesn’t seem large enough for anything but a grab and go coffee and pastry stop. But if the gorgeous baked goods and inviting smells coax you into sticking around, you can walk through the narrow hallway next to the kitchen to the cozy back room. There you will find inviting, mismatched tables and chairs, and a host of plants to brighten up the space. Along with the patterned tiles and distressed wooden surfaces, the abundance of blue and white china helps to emphasize that the cafe is closer to a spot for tea and pastries than it is to your average coffee shop. The pastries, from comfortingly rich Nutella brownies to carefully crafted kouign amann, naturally renamed kouign “maman” here, taste as masterful as they look. Maman Soho also offers enticing fresh sandwiches, salads, and quiches, perfect for a quick and satisfying lunch. Conveniently, they have two locations within walking distance of The Drawing Center, Maman Soho and Maman Tribeca at 211 West Broadway, making it easy to grab some of their expertly made comfort food whether you’re heading south or east.
Maman Soho: 239 Centre Street, Between Grand and Broome.
