Artists have a variety of methods to make their mark. Every Friday we will share a photograph of an #ArtistInAction.
British painter Bridget Riley is known for her large scale, vibrant paintings that investigate optical perception through their bold, undulating forms and vibrating color. Born in Norwood, South London in 1931, Riley studied at Goldsmiths College and the Royal College of Art where her initial training centered on life drawing. Early on, George Seurat had an important impact on her work as she studied his pointillist paintings for his use of complementary colors and optical effects. In the 60s she began working in her quintessential ‘Op Art’ style, focusing increasingly on color for its relational properties, and utilizing notions of rhythm, space, and depth to create a pure visual sensation.
