Artists have a variety of methods to make their mark. Every Friday we will share a photograph of an #ArtistInAction.
Lee Bul is an artist from Korea whose work questions patriarchal authority and the marginalization of women by revealing cultural ideologies present in her native country. Born in 1964, Bul studied sculpture in Seoul and has since worked in other mediums such as installation, performance, textiles and drawing. Using the juxtaposition of her own image with constructed representations of the female body, Lee Bul draws attention to the vulnerability of women and how social structures are maintained in a male-dominated society.
