Born in 1936, Steve Reich is an American composer who pioneered minimal music in the mid to late 1960s. Reich's innovations include using tape loops to create phasing patterns. These compositions, marked by their use of repetitive figures, slow harmonic rhythm and canons, have significantly influenced contemporary music, especially in the US. The growing success of the LeWitt’s career in the late 1960s and early 1970s allowed him to purchase scores directly from musicians in order to support their efforts in a world that wasn’t as highly commodified as that of visual art. Reich lacked the funds for his first performance of “Drumming”, and LeWitt purchased several of Reich’s scores, allowing him to acquire the necessary glockenspiels. “Drawing Dialogues: Selections from the Sol LeWitt Collection” features over 100 works by more than 60 artists from this extraordinary collection. On view Wed-Sun 12-6pm | Thurs 12-8pm
