Artists have a variety of methods to make their mark. Every Friday we will share a photograph of an #ArtistInAction.

Having been trained as a traditional Japanese painter, Kazuo Shiraga is known for his unique blend of painting and performance. In his studio, he suspended himself from a rope while painting the canvas with his bare foot. He used his body partially or entirely to create works that traced speed, power, and referenced violence; sometimes causing injuries to himself. In 1952, Shiraga joined the Japanese Avant-garde Gutai group that had risen from the post-Hiroshima Japan.
