“The thing about a portrait is that it is a vehicle for making art. In other words, a very good artist can do about five or six things at once on a portrait. An undeveloped artist does one thing. That’s what makes portraits different.”-Artist #AlexKatz in discussion with exhibition curator Brett Littman, along with artists Ellen Altfest and Will Cotton (full conversation is in our catalog)
Portraits from the École des Beaux-Arts is on view through June 28. This exhibition examines the notion of drawn portraiture from a live model. It provides unique readings of this influential genre within a contemporary context. You can read more about portraiture and the progressive ideas explored through our exhibition in Drawing Papers 121 online at issuu.com.
