#ThrowbackThursday “Show your tongue,” “be a shell for one minute,” and “put the felt markers on top of your shoes, hold this for one minute and think of Rene Descartes.” The Austrian artist #ErwinWurm provided sketches with instructions that directed people’s interaction with common objects such as bowls, newspapers, cans, buckets, sticks, and balls. Wurm is well known for his ongoing series of “One Minute Sculptures,” during which performers pose in a quirky and unexpected way for one minute. The artist views himself as a sculptor. His performance-oriented sculptures convey a sense of humor and also reveal the interactive relationship between bodies and objects.

In 2001, Wurm’s performance drawing exhibition which was comprised of drawings and objects, all arranged on or in proximity to a platform stage that nearly filled The Drawing Center’s gallery. The artist performed on the opening night and the installation encouraged interaction from visitors.
