Meet Audrie, a 4th year Health Physics and Radiation Science student. She shares with us her amazing experiences she has been able to be a part of since enrolling to the Faculty of Energy Systems and Nuclear Science.
“The faculty prepared me with radiation knowledge and skills while UOIT’s Career Centre helped me to open the door to nuclear companies.
I was fortunate enough to be able to spend 1 year Co-op at the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and learn how Canada regulates the use of nuclear energy and materials. Within this period, I got the opportunity to apply my radiation protection and instrumentation skills to inspect Canada’s nuclear waste management facilities (Ontario, Manitoba & New Brunswick), Canada’s only synchrotron facility (Saskatchewan), and to observe a prostate cancer brachytherapy surgery at a cancer centre (Alberta). In addition, I also had an internship at the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) where I received hands-on learning experience of Fukushima post-accident situation by attending meetings/workshops in Japan with international experts, scientists, and local community.”
