Happy Black History Month!

In celebration of Black History Month, and in honor of our “homecoming” season, we are highlighting the pride and heart of the African American community: Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)! 

These institutions were established prior to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and have a principal mission to educate African Americans. Since many colleges and universities prohibited or limited black enrollment following the abolition of slavery, HBCUs sought to train this underserved population. They are largely responsible for establishing and expanding the black middle class. Graduates of these institutions have varied careers in many different sectors and are employed throughout the world. 

There are currently 101 HBCUs spread across the United States, including public and private institutions, offering programs ranging from associate to doctoral degrees. Over 35% of these schools are home to the dynamic Southern Region‼️ 

Though training African American students is at the core of their mission, HBCUs offer all students, regardless of race, an opportunity to develop their skills and talents.
