"Being a Spurs Fan is PURO SAN ANTO! It's become part of the S.A. culture and the S.A. way," says Dalia Flores Contreras, CEO for City Education Partners (CEP), an education non-profit in San Antonio.

Dalia has been a part of CEP for three years, where she focuses on ensuring that San Antonio has the best schools in the world, schools that allow our next generation to live choice-filled lives and command their future. In addition to advocating for the S.A. youth, she is building chingonaclaysa , her new small business. And this is her story... 

"I grew up in a space that pushed assimilation. That meant speaking Spanish wasn't valued, and doing anything that remotely made you look or act "Mexican" was frowned upon. I grew up not really knowing my culture and saw parts of my culture stripped away as the years went by, from the language to food, music, and traditions. As an adult, I am rebuilding my language and embracing my culture one meal, song, and palabra at a time.

Not all Hispanic/x are the same. We are a mezcla of love and traditions. Every color, every sound, every movement is an expression of who we are and where we come from.  There is pain and joy in our hearts and Hispanic Heritage Month is a time when we can all grow and learn of the beautiful and rich history. Together, I would love to continue growing in our understanding and acknowledgment of the powerful and tragic history of the indigenous peoples of central Texas. Acknowledging that the land we live on, learn from, heal with, and build on is that of the Lipan Apache, Tonkawa, and Coahuiltecan peoples.

San Antonio is proud of its culture, and it is celebrated all year through festivals and various events. Being a Spurs fan honors the culture of S.A. since Spurs is Puro San Anto!" 

We are proud to continue to celebrate and honor our community's rich history and culture throughout Hispanic Heritage Month presented by whataburger.
