It’s the eve of the All-Ireland Hurling Championship and Limerick are going for 5 championships in a row, and 6 Munster Championship’s in row…. An absolutely nuts stat 🫨

The above is a fairly incredible statement considering the bad days the county has had to endure in the last 50 years. I remember saying to a few lads on Hill 16 after Tipp battered us in the 09 semi final that we will never win an all Ireland in my lifetime, and thank Jaysus I was wrong. The game has been dominated by the “Big three” of Kilkenny, Tipp and Cork, so for Limerick do what they are doing and dominate the sport now is incredible and a credit to the players and people who have driven hurling in the county in the last ten years or so. 

Last summer I managed to see them win the Munster title in the flesh. A day I’ll never forget for the rest of my life, Despite the hape of pints consumed in Limerick. Followed by great days in Dublin for the Semi final and all Ireland final. Limerick hurling has given me so many ideas for illustrations over the years and it’s been brilliant seeing Limerick/GAA fans interact with my work online because of the success of this team. 

The drive for 5 is well and truly on. The players won’t care about that. They’ll only care about beating Clare this Sunday, and rightly so. 

History beckons for the Shannonsiders.
