Students and ASUC senators questioned Chancellor Carol Christ about the recent controversial Ran Bar-Yoshafat speaker event and the tenure status of professor Ivonne del Valle during a forum hosted by the ASUC at Wednesday’s senate meeting.

Christ attended the meeting over Zoom after going back on her decision to come in person, citing safety concerns.

“The protections for free speech are very, very far-reaching,” Christ said during the meeting. “The only things that are prohibited are direct incitement to immediate violence or physical harm.”
