Did you know that the USC Black Law Student Association was named after the Honorable Matthew J. Perry, Jr.❓ World War II veteran Matthew J. Perry, Jr. became the first African-American lawyer from the Deep South to be appointed to a federal bench when he was recommended for a U.S. Military Court of Appeals position. He later became South Carolina’s first African-American Federal District Judge in 1979. #UofSClaw is #CelebratingBlackHistory by honoring Matthew J. Perry, Jr. and acknowledging the impact he’s made in the field of law.
