Today would’ve been Eliza Hamilton’s 261st birthday! In honor of her birthday we’re sharing with you guys 5 surprising facts that you may not have know about her straight from #TilarMazzeo’s biography ELIZA HAMILTON, on sale Sept 18!
🎉Eliza and her family fought off a British assassination attempt during the revolution.
🎉Eliza sat for a portrait inside a New York City prison to help the bankrupt artist.
🎉She helped open the Orphan Asylum Society which was the first charitable orphanage in New York and still exists today under the name Graham Windham.
🎉Eliza and Alexander didn’t fall in love immediately. They did not see each other again for two years after the first time they met and Eliza was actually pining for another all the while.
🎉Eliza was adventurous and at the age of 80, took a yearlong cross country trip to visit her son William.
🎉She was extremely charitable and worked with Dolley Madison to help raise money in order to build the Washington Monument.
