Thomas Cattle Company!
After doing our feature for the idahobeefcouncil, we received quite a few questions from you, and had several ourselves. It feels like knowing where our food comes from is important. We get our beef from an amazing ranch here locally called thomascattlecompany. We asked them if we could send these questions over, for them to answer personally, along with giving us a few behind the scenes of what ranching is like in Idaho. If you head to our stories, you’ll see an entire series. And if you’re coming after the stories have expired, head to our highlight bubble entitled “Idaho Beef”.
We recently ordered a quarter cow from this ranch, and we are absolutely loving their tender, marbled all natural beef.
They also were nice enough to offer you a coupon code! Use code HELLOMERIDIAN to get $20 off any purchase of $99 or more through March 18. For local pickup or delivery to your doorstep.

The one question that was most on our mind was what their concerns were for the future of ranching in Idaho. It seems like this is an especially important point to note. Here was their answer.

“As time goes on, people move farther away from their food source. This makes it more difficult to educate people when they see incorrect statements on social media or the news but don’t take time to research the question and ask those that are actively involved in it every day. There are many people making policy for the future of agriculture that are completely removed from it.

One thing that concerns us as far as the significant growth in Idaho is the loss of usable farm/ranch land that is being gobbled up by housing projects. Also, individuals moving into the community that don’t appreciate the farm and ranch lifestyle that Idaho has been so great at supporting and wanting to change policy or law so it makes it harder for ranchers/farmers to succeed.”

Well said! We hope to continue learning about this important industry, and it’s significance to our beautiful state. Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions thomascattlecompany!
