The Fashion Archives and Museum of Shippensburg University (FA&M) fashionarchivessu announces the opening of its newest #exhibit “Celebrating Creative Hands – Yesterday and Today.” The exhibit is open through November 22 to groups of 15 or fewer, Monday-Thursday, noon to 4 PM. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and children 12 and under are free.

FA&M partnered with the Lancaster Spinners and Weavers Guild to showcase their work and items from the FA&M collection. The exhibit features #textiles and #historical clothing spun, woven, knitted, embroidered and #crocheted by hand from the 18th to 21st centuries.

“Textile techniques of the past continue to thrive, and the Lancaster Spinners and Weavers are true artisans, bringing traditional practices into the twenty-first century. This exhibit combines their creations and examples of the same techniques from the historic examples drawn from the collection of the Fashion Archives and Museum. This exciting partnership is the FA&M’s first foray into the fiber arts #community, and it will definitely not be the last,” said FA&M Director Dr. Karin Bohleke.

The Fashion Archives and Museum houses a unique 15,000-item #collection of mostly clothing donations dating from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries. The clothes and accessories worn by men, women and children assist in expanding the knowledge and understanding of the #cultural value as well as the #artistic and historical importance of #dress.

The Fashion Archives and Museum collaborates with faculty and students by providing a dynamic learning environment with #hands-on opportunities for students and welcomes the public to its exhibits and events. #Research inquiries are also welcome. shiphistorydept shiphistoryclub
