Life in the mid ‘90s was good, maybe even great. I was married, had a family, was a managing director at a Fortune 100 company and, for good measure, I won a national track championship. And did I mention, I was very good at religion?⁣
⁣
Fast forward to 2010, and life looked significantly different. I had just gone through a divorce, a company I had co-founded had barely weathered the recession and I was looking at the prospect of a second open heart surgery laced with complications. In a word, life was dark. In the throes of self-pity, my wife, Chong, walked into my life.⁣ Chong, while far from a perfect human being, had a faith unlike anything I had ever witnessed. Despite having to overcome many obstacles in her life, she placed her complete trust in Jesus Christ. I wanted a relationship like she had, so one day I agreed to attend Hope with her. The rest is history.⁣
⁣
We immersed ourselves in church and eventually got married in 2014. My faith journey was underway, and I finally found myself completely open to a relationship with my Savior. Soon, we started taking the class CORE. The final “assignment” with CORE was to identify a few ways you might disciple to others. Coming up with something to satisfy our group leader, I suggested starting a men’s Bible study (laughable if you knew my biblical background) while using my writing skills (I was a journalism major) to reach out to others in a bold way.⁣
⁣
On the former, I used my best sales technique in reaching out to a couple of men with a pitch of “You don’t want to join a Bible study, do you?”, and wouldn’t you know it, guys started to say “yes.” Now, about 16 men come together every Saturday to dive into the Word. On the latter, I began to develop a screenplay that I hope to get in production sometime soon.⁣
⁣
Just recently, through a bizarre sequence of “accidents,” I ended up on the Hope staff as the Missions Director. I’d give you all of the details, but I’m already past my word limit. I would, however, leave you with this. I’ve leaned heavily in recent times on Psalm 46:10 and have learned that when I’m still and listen, some amazing things tend to happen.⁣
