I’m just a regular dad and husband who volunteers with Student Ministry at Hope. I have a passion for helping kids in junior high and high school work through their questions about faith while giving them a safe place to ask questions and share doubts. Volunteering at PowerLife for six years as a leader for my two sons’ groups has had a profound effect on me in ways I did not expect. You see, when you’re a PowerLife leader of 27 boys, it can be hard to know if you’re making a real difference.⁣

After my last group of PowerLife boys had been confirmed, I was considering continuing with them and volunteering for Ignition. While I was contemplating the time commitment of volunteering with Ignition, I remembered a sermon Pastor Mike preached a few years earlier on Ezekiel 37:1-14. God was with Ezekiel and gave him a vision of a valley full of dry bones. God asked Ezekiel to tell the bones that God was going to put flesh and muscle on them. After that, he would then breathe life into them again.⁣
⁣
In my mind I saw one of my PowerLife boy’s face. I could see the brightness in his eyes and the quick smile on his face the moment he first felt grace. It wasn’t a major moment. It didn’t take long, but I knew in that moment he understood God’s amazing grace and relentless love. Then, I remembered another face, and another face, and all the sudden, I understood Ezekiel’s story like I never had before. I was able to see the moment when dry bones came alive and God’s breath filled their soul. I was able to witness the moment when someone first started to believe. Right then, I knew I would do it all over again be able to have that kind of firsthand experience with the power of God's amazing grace!⁣
