## Caption

One of the greatest pieces of wisdom I have ever received is, “Never assume anything, but ALWAYS assume that someone might be hurting.” Whether we have gone through a bad breakup, lost a job, are short on finances, lost a loved one or have an insecurity about our physical appearance, we have all had an experience that has hurt us.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Mine started at the age of 18 when I developed chronic depression which stemmed from a variety of things such as a breakup, alcohol, gambling and everyday fights with my parents. This lasted for over two years, and as the anxiety and depression built up, I got to the point where I became numb to emotion. As humans we often accept the love we think we deserve, which in this case I felt as if I deserved no love from anyone.⁣⁣

As time went on, my anger with God grew because I had no idea where I was going or what my identity was. One day I said, “Enough is enough,” and my numbness to the world was so overwhelming that I tried to take my own life at the age of 20. A bridge with a 100-foot drop into a ravine was in sight, and I decided to take it. My life flashed before my eyes as my car flipped twice down the ravine while I instantly regretted my decision.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
There is beauty in Lamentations 3:22-23 where it says, “The Lord’s steadfast love NEVER ceases. His mercies and grace are new every morning.” What if we started looking at the cross as not just a revelation of our sin but an outward image of Jesus showing us how worth it we are to him? What if instead of accepting the love we “think we deserve,” we accept the love God gave when he sacrificed his son so we may live an eternal life with him?⁣⁣

Life has not been perfect since then, but God has shown me every single day what it looks like to receive and give love to those I encounter throughout my life. I couldn’t thank him enough for giving great opportunities and a wonderful community of people that surround me in my life.⁣⁣
