Hope is one of those places I can feel the Holy Spirit the second I walk into any of the buildings. I remember when the current West Des Moines worship center was basically cement and steel beams. The windows weren’t in, and if there was any wind outside, it would come roaring through the worship center making a loud and intense ringing sound. I could feel something more was going on in this new space, but there was no way to look inside because it was locked up for safety.⁣
⁣
One Wednesday evening, I was at Hope with our kids later than usual cleaning up. The ringing was particularly loud this night, and it kept getting louder! We finished around 10:00 pm, and the kids and I hopped in the car to go home. I could not stop thinking about the ringing, though.⁣

I felt drawn to it and drove the car around the back of the new worship center. I drove slowly with the windows open so we could take a good look at this new massive structure. Suddenly, we looked up to the top of the building as an entire flock of singing white doves flew out of the top windows of the worship center in a solid V formation. It was a beautiful and holy sight! The next few days, I didn’t know why, but couldn’t stop humming the tune to the old classic hymn, “This is my Father’s World”. So much, that I was nudged to look up the words.⁣

"This is my Father’s world, the BIRDS their carols raise, the morning light the lily WHITE declare their Maker’s praise.”⁣

I now understood the ringing and the white doves. The Holy Spirit was in the worship center stirring it, crafting it and preparing it: for holy moments that would happen for countless ages to come, for the people that would meet Jesus for the first time, for life long Christians to grow closer to God, for hurting lives to be healed, for thousands of kids to come to VBS, for forgiveness and for grace to be known. I believe with all my heart God gave me a glimpse that night of His personal blessing on and for this holy place called Hope.⁣
