The Sport Is Alive and Its Ours

The 2021 Portland Track Festival now belongs to history. Over the next week, journalists, photographers, fans and athletes will be sifting through every single race to extract the stories that each one on their own could fill a 90 minute documentary. 

A race is the entanglement, clashing and interweaving of all the storylines that each athlete brings to the line. Each one is a world of its own and if you pull one out, the entire landscape of the race is altered. Every single one is important and every one makes history. 

Our job at Portland Track is to do our absolute best to make sure the stage is set for historic moments to be made and for them to be felt. To make the atmosphere electric. It was, and I swear currents were visible. 

Athletes and their stories are the greatest thing we have in this sport and we owe them all the hard work required to amplify their power to a hair-raising degree. 

Every meet can carry a mountain of meaning if we make it that way.

The PPV model was a success. Through fan support, the revenue sharing program combined with the initial purse supplied by our generous partners will get $50,000 to the athletes- the people who deserve it. 

Thank you to all the media members, story tellers, officials, volunteers and journalists who covered the exploits of all the athletes competing in the electric forest. 

Don’t doubt your power. Do good things and bring others along with you.

The sport belongs to us. The fans, and the athletes.
