2019 Stumptown Twilight 1500m

Sipping a beer at the airport bar, Rocki scrolled through celebratory messages from friends and family. Many of them had held a watch party back in San Diego for her race at the Stumptown Twilight and now she was flying back to meet them. Hours before her legs were dangling from a barstool, they’d swept her around the final curve of the track in the electric forest, 2nd place dead in her sights. Finishing .14 outside of second place, a narrow third brought with it a glistening 4 second PR of 4:11.31 and spot on the line at USA’s in Des Moines. “My teammate, sam.smurphy, had just run a 2:01, shattering her previous best… after watching her, I felt like it was going to be a big night for both of us.” It had been 4 years since Rocki set her previous 1500 best. In a single race, she removed a second for each one of them and celebrated in the arms of her teammates. “I love the running culture of Portland and it’s where I ran my first post-collegiate PR! The environment and the energy of the meets there seem to bring out the best in athletes. As a bonus the food is delicious and we win beer!” Cheers, Rocki. Big time races deserve big time rewards.
