More than 500 members of the #Quinnipiac community held candles as part of a vigil Wednesday night to show solidarity with the victims in Paris -- as well all those who have recently been persecuted or victims of violence around the world. "We stand in solidarity with the City of Lights," said Annalisa Zinn, vice president for academic innovation and effectiveness. "We reaffirm our respect for the dignity and worth of the human person. We reaffirm our commitment to the fundamental of human rights – the rights of life, liberty and the security of the person; the freedom of religion, the freedom of opinion and expression, the freedom of peaceful assembly and all of the rights contained in the precious Declaration of Human Rights.Tonight, we express this commitment to human rights with this vigil of hope and prayer for true and lasting peace. As we remember the victims in the recent attacks in Paris, as well as in Iraq, Lebanon, Turkey and many other communities that have suffered persecution and violence lately, may we too recall our roles and responsibilities as global citizens and resolve once more to discern and fulfill our individual responsibilities to peace and to human rights." Madame Isabel Evelein, honorary consul of France to Hartford, thanked those who stood with her nation. "On behalf of France, my country, I thank you," she said.
