“The 2008 Beijing Olympics was the first Olympics I had ever covered. I was so nervous and overwhelmed by the experience. It is hard to explain to someone who has never been. However, I say it’s the hardest you work every four years…about 21 days straight, 12-18hr days and there is a lot of pressure. It is also the Olympics for photographers so the best sports photographers are all there aiming to get the best images possible. It is a rollercoaster of emotions as you ride the wave with the athletes that you document daily, the emotions they go through achieving their lifelong dream are seen through your lens, sometimes the failed dreams too. This is one of the best things about photographing the Games though, capturing the jubilation and electric emotion. This image was of the Men’s Chinese Badminton doubles team winning Bronze in front of their home crowd in a packed arena. I was in a catwalk and the celebration was amazing. Both players were leaning back, racquets thrown in the air…the athletes screaming towards the roof where I was positioned. Fortunately it worked out and I was ecstatic at capturing a celebration image I was really proud of.” - cjspencois | August 17, 2008 | #PhotographerTakeover [4 of 4]
