## Caption

In a mink-breeding facility in Poland, a conveyor belt transports the minks from one building to another. In the background, skinned carcasses are deposited in a bin. By gettyreportage photographer paolomarchettiphoto.
This image, part of Paolo's project "The Price of Vanity," was screened at this week's 28th Visa Pour l’Image photojournalism festival. The annual festival, held in the town of Perpignan, in Southern France, brings together photographers, editors, and other photography enthusiasts to celebrate today's best photojournalism. Paolo says the sense of camaraderie at the festival is an unrivaled experience. Its recipe is to "take the warm atmosphere of home, mix with professional opportunities and culture, place over low heat (of the balmy South-of-France variety), and serve it with care."
Paolo’s project, "The Price of Vanity," shows the animal-farming process behind the fur, feathers and leather used in Europe’s fashion industry. The volume of business amounts to millions of euros a year and includes many famous brands. Italy and France alone are responsible for half of all European demand. Paolo's work, which was published in the September issue of natgeo, shows mink farms in Poland, Caiman breeding in Colombia, and other abattoirs around the world. #visapourlimage #visapourlimage2016
