Look at how well AI handles mirror surfaces 😳 collab with jperl #ad made for nvidiacreators using instant-ngp

We tried this NeRF shot in 3 different locations before landing on this one - thanks to my friend who let me shoot at the piano in her house 🎹

Our biggest challenge was trying to scan the mirror without catching jperl in the reflection. We tried all sorts of tricks (which mostly consisted of him having to do a lot squatting). And we were able to get some coverage through the mirror, but not a full scan in there

Then jperl had a brilliant idea...

What if we simply *flipped* our real world footage. Could we feed that flipped footage into the AI and trick it into thinking it was the mirror world??

So we tried it and whaddayaknow 
IT WORKED.

If you're familiar with photogrammetry you may be familiar with how hard it is to scan reflective surfaces with traditional methods.  Compare that to NeRF, which can handle it beautifully.

Shoutout to smallfly who back in April posted what I believe is the first mirror NeRF. We were majorly inspired by this shot and it led us to try all sorts of experimentation with mirrors.
