Part 2 of my campaign for the LG gram laptop #LGPartner

When I was a kid, I saw these cool boys in class who could spin books on their fingers. I really wanted to learn, but I was too shy to ask. So I went home and tried to figure it out. This was back when there was no YouTube, so there was no way for me to look up a tutorial or anything. I just made dumb brute force attempts to do it. At first I couldn’t even keep it on my finger for 2 seconds. But then I could do 5 seconds… and then 10 seconds… and then 30 seconds!

It was the first time I remember learning something on my own - not something I learned in school, or was taught by anyone. I remember feeling so satisfied that I went from having no idea how to do something - to mastering it. And it started a lifelong obsession with learning new skills (sometimes random and totally useless skills). But this obsession has been the most useful thing for me as I’ve changed careers several times now. I never went to film school and most of my filmmaking knowledge is self taught. I’ll share more of my thoughts about changing careers shortly in an IGTV.

When I pitched this laptop-spinning idea to lgusa to show off how light their #LGgram laptop was, I honestly wasn’t sure if it would work. Laptops are a lot heavier than the thin books that I’m used to spinning.

When they sent it to me, I got even more worried. This laptop was HUGE. 17 inches. But when I pulled it out of the case, I was so relieved. This thing is seriously so light. It’s even lighter than any other 13 inch laptop I’ve tried. I’d always wanted a big screen to be able to edit on the go, but never got one before cause I’m a tiny person who doesn’t like wearing heavy backpacks.
