Turning a 2D photo into a 3D image - new client work for the LG gram laptop #LGPartner

I first discovered the surreal work of creyety a few months ago and immediately knew I wanted to find a project to work with him on. When lgusa asked me to come up with a concept that would show how light the laptop is, we decided to have the #LGgram laptop float in 3D space (and it’s really, really light. When I unboxed it, I thought it was going to be heavy because it’s huge, a 17 inch screen. I was so surprised when I picked it up and it was much lighter than most 13 inch laptops. The photographer couldn’t stop commenting on how light it was too).

This was not shot with a 3D camera btw - we took normal 2D photos. tedslittledream got various options and poses, and we also took separate photos for the laptop and a clean plate. While we were shooting, we sent previews of the photos to creyety who was halfway across the world. He gave us real-time notes on framing and composition that he would need in order to turn the 2D photo into a 3D one. It helped to get a wide shot, to find an angle that would show maximum depth, and to add props in the foreground/background in order to make the final 3D shot interesting.

Then creyety began the long process of working on a single 2D photo, separating out every single distinct object in Photoshop. He worked his magic and 12 hours later, the 2D photo became a 3D one. We coordinated the entire project and editing process (with creyety halfway across the world) over Instagram DM, without ever getting on a phone call or video call once! One of the coolest remote collab projects I’ve ever done.
