The basketball world lost a bright, joyful soul yesterday. I did not have the pleasure of knowing or interacting with Terrence, but from everything that has been posted and said about him, he was a kid that simply lit up the room with his smile and energy. He had such a bright future ahead of him, not only in the NBA, but also just as a human being. My heart goes out to his family and everyone involved.

As I sit here and write this, the realization that life is so fragile and precious floods me. There is not one day on this Earth that is promised to anyone: “Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” (James 4:14). There is no guarantee for tomorrow. It’s really easy to relax into the routine of life. We all know that one day we will pass, but we never think it will be soon. Death is a very real part of life. One day, you will pass. You never know when that will be. Life is merely a vapor of tens of years if you’re lucky. What will you do about it? How will you spend this one short life that you have? Is it really worth having small, petty arguments? You get this life one time; why not try to build people up instead of tear them down?

To Brandon Boston Jr., I hope you show the world your amazing ability and have a phenomenal career. The strength that it takes to go through something like this is unfathomable. We will never understand fully the emotions you will feel from this, but we are with you.

Although Terrence has passed, his influence will be seen through the friends, teammates, and kids that looked up to him. It is clear that the 2020 high school class of players is more than tightly-knit. This is a group of guys that surrounds each other with joy and genuinely roots for the success of the guy next to him. Terrence’s legacy will be seen through these people who have all been touched by the bright soul of Terrence Clarke.

Please keep the Clarke family, the Boston family, and everyone involved in your thoughts in prayers. Look out for each other. Some things are way bigger than basketball. We will miss you, TClarke.
