Almost seven years ago, before theholdernessfamily rocked jammies and before thefoodbabe had an army, our friends Penn and Kim ran a video production company. They wanted to bring a woman named Vani Hari to our Raleigh home to shoot a pilot where she tells us how horrible the food in our pantry is. That it’s riddled with chemicals, it’s unhealthy and that it’s... killing the kids. *gulp*

I don’t think any of us were prepared for just how horrible it was. Our cases of Kraft Mac n’ Cheese received the bulk of her wrath, and we spent the rest of the video learning a new homemade cauliflower mac n’ cheese recipe, with a serious side of guilt.

Fast forward to today, and we now all live in Charlotte, Vani’s following is now legitimately the size of an army, we’ve made that cheesy mac dish exactly zero times, and Vani still posts that video to her social media channels every few months because it’s a parenting car crash you can’t turn away from. So it was no surprise when we brought Vani back to join the Date Night podcast this week, she called us out on having not changed our ways. At all. And for my stockpiling of frozen Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches. I’m sorry, Vani, I can’t quit them. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷‍♂️

If you know Vani, aka the Food Babe, you know she keeps it real. She let us have it. Again. And we deserved it. We should probably take the advice she dishes out in her new book “Food Babe Kitchen,” which is available now wherever books are sold. We could probably also stand to spend more time on her truvani site and less time on Postmates too. Sigh.

Jokes aside, watching Vani’s rise since those early days seven years ago has been fun. We had a blast catching up with her on the pod. She’s gives her take on our recent Whole30 experience, on dieting in general, on being a mom with another one on the way, and what’s next for her growing businesses.

A link to the episode is in the bio, and you can find it wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening!
