In almost thirty years, the Electoral Commission have only brough nine successful convictions for postal vote fraud.

Despite the low rates of detected voter fraud, however, it has long been suggested that malicious actors have been unduly influencing the outcomes of our elections both here in the UK and abroad.

With research suggesting that two in five British adults have election fraud issues, it is clear that the significant concerns of a sizable proportion of the electorate are not being addressed.

Even the Electoral Commission themselves admitted that police data "may not be a complete record of all activity which could involve electoral fraud offences".

The truth is this; if almost half of voters don’t believe that the voting process is democratic, it is flawed.

Against that backdrop, it’s little wonder that 58% of Londoners didn’t even vote in the last election.

As someone who supports the transformative impact of transparent, immutable ledger data, I believe that I have a solution to this issue… By using the blockchain to manage our elections now, and in the future.

The electorate should be able to see and interrogate how many people voted, for which parties and in which areas… because without a permanent, accessible record, the concerns over voter fraud and election tampering will only continue to grow.

Blockchain technology enables a vision for our voting future which enshrines the principles of modern democracy at its core, promoting the very concept of “of the people, by the people, for the people” as well as protecting us from sinister forces.

Better yet, it’s not yet too late even for the current London Mayor elections to adopt a blockchain-based approach… but we need to do this now.

So I ask this: will Sadiq Khan and his cronies at the Electoral Commission guarantee fair elections for the first time in history by pledging to make the 2024 Mayor of London elections blockchain-enabled?
