Auburn Baseball yesterday debuted new throwback-inspired uniforms in the home midweek finale against Florida A&M. These were meant to harken back to the 1997 College World Series team.

The new white jerseys featured an orange AU logo on the left chest with a navy outline. This colorway was popular during the Hal Baird era but has not been approved for use by Trademark Management & Licensing for many years. Opposite the logo is an all-navy number, which was not present on the Baird uniforms. The back of the jersey includes the player's name & number, with the latter matching the AU logo - orange with a navy outline.

Auburn also debuted brand new ballcaps for the occasion. The white hats with navy bills featured the old-school AU logo colorway. While it's possible this design was worn in 1997, the Auburn Uniform Database has only been able to confirm one such game that this hat appeared - 2000 vs Vanderbilt. That game saw the Tigers wear their navy jerseys.

The 1997 team wore uniforms different from what the Tigers sported yesterday. The inclusion of the front number is odd, but not unprecedented. Auburn wore a similar uniform style from 2007-08 with the number on the front as well. Though, the numbers were orange/blue on the front and back to match the AU logo.

There's also the missing placket stripe, the line of piping that goes around the head and down the front of the jersey. Both the 1997 and 2008 designs included this, but the 2024 edition did not.

Finally, the number font. While Copperplate numbers are used throughout Auburn's athletic teams now and were used on the 2008 design, the original uniform this look is based on used traditional block numbers.

The uniforms worn yesterday were an odd conglomeration of details from Auburn's uniform history. The front number being all navy, the lack of placket striping, and the USA flag on the left sleeve are all from the current uniforms. The number font and front placement harken back to that 2008 set. The orange/blue colorway used throughout does reach back to 1997 as intended.
