Bison family, our 156th Commencement is almost here!

We are absolutely thrilled to share that Thasunda Brown Duckett, president and CEO of TIAA, will grace us as the keynote speaker for our 156th Commencement Convocation.

Thasunda’s passion for creating opportunities and her advocacy for education and economic empowerment are sources of inspiration for Howard graduates embarking on their post-grad journeys.

We are also honored to award honorary degrees to four extraordinary leaders who have made phenomenal contributions in their respective fields:

Epsy Campbell Barr, Ph.D., Costa Rica's former vice president (2018-2022) and a trailblazing leader in the global fight for Afro-descendant rights whose continued work to impact human rights and mental health is recognized on the global scale.

Fred D. Gray, a Civil Rights titan and a steadfast advocate for justice, whose legal acumen and dedication since the Civil Rights Movement have greatly advanced the rights and dignity of our Black communities.

Victor J. Glover, Jr., a NASA astronaut who has taken us from the halls of Congress to the stars as pilot of the Crew-1 Dragon spacecraft and now part of NASA’s Artemis II mission.

J. Willard Marriott, Jr., a visionary and Marriott International's Chairman Emeritus, who transformed a simple root beer stand into a global hospitality empire, demonstrating the power of dedication and strategic innovation.

This year, we celebrate the largest graduating class in Howard's history! We’ve moved to the spacious Capital One Arena to ensure every graduate can have their loved ones cheer them on.

We will see you on Saturday, May 11 at Capital One Arena - doors open at 7:30 a.m. Please be cognizant of the arena's rules on bags and sizes of personal items.
