This is Paul E. Pancake's story 🥞✨

"Paul E. Pancake has spina bifida. Her previous family rescued her with best intentions but had a busy household with an elderly dog, two toddlers, and an ER doctor parent. They had to relocate her within a few weeks and contacted Essence of Love Animal Rescue. I had applied to adopt a different dog a few weeks earlier that ended up furever joining his foster family. The agency had reviewed my application and did a Google search to learn that I co-founded an organization that teaches mindfulness through arts and movement, centering around people with disabilities…. They called me to set up a meeting with Paul… and I couldn’t help myself! We’ve been BFF's ever since!"

When Paul E. Pancake was first adopted, she came with wheels but was terrified at the sight of the chair and had to work a lot on desensitization! Now, she is loving life with her new found freedom thanks to the help of the Izzie Fund who supported Paul E. Pancake's physical therapy journey so that she can learn how to safely and confidently use her chair. 💙

"Before this help, Paul was either stuck at home or I had to carry her everywhere we went. She actually runs to the dog park now! It’s been so heartening to see her be independent and have a chance to let her loving personality shine. She’s become a neighborhood celebrity and a little advocate for wheelchair accessibility. She NEVER had the chance to take a walk around the neighborhood before! Now, people call her name out from cars and storefronts. She has other dog buddies. I even sometimes find gifts like boots and knit sweaters on my porch from neighbors that love her. She’s such a social butterfly and that’s something she never had the chance to show before she learned how to move in physical therapy!"
