On this day in 1865, President Lincoln signed the 13th Amendment, outlawing slavery in the United States. Richard Robert Wright, Sr., a Philadelphia businessman and activist, and once a slave, fought to have February 1st a celebration of freedom for all Americans. And later, in 1948, President Harry Truman made National Freedom Day an official observance. 🇺🇸 #NationalFreedomDay #BlackHistoryMonth
